Named after the Greek god of oceans and fertile valleys, the Krewe of Okeanos was founded in 1949. The krewe was formed to have a parade run on St. Claude but it is now on the traditional Uptown route. There are over 300 men and women who are in the parade. They are known for their elaborate costumes.
The parade takes the traditional uptown route that starts at Jefferson Ave and Magazine St. The parade follows Magazine to Napoleon Ave and turns left. It goes Napoleon to St Charles and takes a right heading to Lee Cir. The parade goes around the circle and then back north on St Charles. At Canal St the parade goes right towards Tchoupitoulas St. The parade ends at Tchoupitoulas St and Poydras St.
This year Mardi Gras will be celebrated in New Orleans from January 6, 2020 (Twelfth Night) to Fat Tuesday on February 25, 2020. There will be 74 parades around the New Orleans Metro and the Northshore.
