The Krewe of Selene lights up the streets of Slidell with its annual parade on the Friday night before Mardi Gras. Founded in 1998 by a group of local professional women, the krewe has grown to include 300 dedicated members. Known for their creative and unique throws, past favorites have included intricately hand-decorated purses, star-themed light-up wands, and an array of specialty beads that delight parade-goers. The krewe’s name pays homage to Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, who in mythology was the companion of Endymion, the god of wine and merriment—a fitting inspiration for this festive and spirited group.

Beyond their spectacular parade, the Krewe of Selene is deeply committed to giving back to the community. Their charitable efforts include hosting a school supply drive, a food drive, and participating in Project Christmas to support families in need. Additionally, their signature Fight Cancer Float bead drive raises funds and awareness for cancer support initiatives. Through their generosity and community spirit, the Krewe of Selene brings joy and makes a lasting impact both during the Carnival season and throughout the year.
