The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum will host the Smithsonian Institution’s Water/Ways exhibit. This fall patrons will be able to get a glimpse into how water fits into this world environmentally, culturally, and historically. See how artists and authors display this important component of planet earth.
The mission of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum is “Bringing Louisiana’s Maritime History to Life.” The museum hosts unique exhibits that affect locals’ lives. Also on display are exhibits that tell the story of the local maritime history of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin, the lower Mississippi River Valley, and the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.
The museum is located on the banks of the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville. The museum hosts school field trips, summer camps, private guided tours and outreach. They want to serve and educate the community as it relates to the maritime history of the Lower Mississippi River Basin.
