Almost Half of Today’s Home Buyers Desire an Exercise Room

The National Association of Home Builders just released their latest edition of What Home Buyers Really Want and the results are no surprise since the Pandemic. Forty-seven percent of buyer’s say an exercise room is a must-have.

The COVID-19 stay-at-home orders were the catalyst to the rising popularity. As far as generations, 61% of Millennials desire an exercise room and 62% of GenX’ers.

Sixty-seven percent of buyers are paying over $500,000 or more for their new home and want a single-family detached home. Seventy-five percent want an exercise room that is 100 square feet or larger.

Another room that hit the top must-haves was the laundry room at 47%. Homeowners are busy and laundry piles up. A nice-sized laundry room gives space to hide your dirty laundry so to speak.

The book also lists the top five community features which are walking/jogging trails, a typical suburban neighborhood, a park area, being near retail space, and a walkable community.

The book also lists the most unwanted features in a home. Surprisingly 42% said they would not want an in-law suite, 48% a wine cellar and 47% a pet washing station. Just a short while ago these features were desirable.
