The Krewe of Choctaw began in 1935 but did not parade until 1939. The original parade had ten old mail wagons for floats. This parade is always on the first Saturday of season. There are 275 women, men and children who ride the 16 floats. The signature throw is a handcrafted tomahawks.
The parade begins at the intersection of Napoleon Ave and Tchoupitoulas St. It will turn right onto St Charles Ave where it will circle around Lee Cir back onto St Charles Ave. At Canal St the parade will turn right and then right again onto Tchoupitoulas where it will end at Tchoupitoulas and Poydras St.
This year Mardi Gras will be celebrated in New Orleans from January 6, 2020 (Twelfth Night) to Fat Tuesday on February 25, 2020. There will be 74 parades around the New Orleans Metro and the Northshore.
