Celebrate the public opening of Dawoud Bey: Elegy with an unforgettable evening at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). Guests will enjoy live music, engaging gallery talks, specialty cocktails and mocktails, and hands-on art-making activities inspired by the exhibition. This event highlights NOMA’s role as the city’s oldest fine arts institution, originally founded in 1911 with just nine works of art. Today, the museum’s permanent collection of nearly 50,000 pieces includes world-renowned strengths in French and American art, photography, glass, and African and Japanese works, positioning NOMA as one of the premier cultural destinations in the South.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors are invited to explore the stunning twelve-acre Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, one of the most significant sculpture installations in the United States. With over 90 sculptures thoughtfully placed among winding footpaths, reflecting lagoons, and historic live oaks draped in Spanish moss, the garden offers a breathtaking outdoor complement to the museum’s galleries. Mature magnolias, pines, and camellias frame this serene landscape, where pedestrian bridges connect art and nature in perfect harmony. Together, the museum and sculpture garden provide an inspiring backdrop to celebrate this landmark exhibition opening.
