The Ice Man Dip & Dash, a thrilling New Year’s tradition, is set to return on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at Franco’s, kicking off at 10 a.m. This event, not for the faint-hearted, features a two-mile run to the bridge, a brisk 110-yard swim across the chilly Tchefuncte River, and another two-mile run back to Franco’s. Originating 35 years ago when Mandeville locals Dr. Fred Miller, Dr. Shannon Allison, and Ron Franco faced a bridge malfunction and decided to swim the icy waters to complete their run, this annual tradition has since become a community favorite and an exhilarating way to start the year.
Registration costs $40 for members and $45 for non-members until Dec. 31, 2024, with a slight increase for day-of sign-ups. Proceeds from the event benefit Team Gleason and the Gleason Initiative Foundation, supporting a worthy cause while offering participants a commemorative Dip & Dash T-Shirt.
